will perform selections of his work, as part of the
North Jersey Literary Series (see bio below).
The reading will be held at Il Trapezio Cafe -- there will be an Open Mic between the two sets by our feature. Paul Nash and Denise La Neve are your hosts for this series, now in its eleventh year. We look forward to seeing you this Friday the 22nd!
Il Trapezio Cafe is located conveniently at 120 Franklin Avenue in Nutley , NJ . The readings, which feature both poetry and music, will continue to be held on the fourth Friday of each month. The cafe has homemade Panini's and miniature Italian pizzas, hot and cold drinks (espresso drinks, teas, hot chocolate, etc), assorted desserts, plus other cold beverages. Joel Allegretti is the author of The Plague Psalms, which appeared in 2000 from The Poet's Press and is now in its third edition.
His second collection, Father Silicon, also from The Poet's Press, was selected by the Kansas City Star as one of the 100 Noteworthy Books of 2006, a list that included novels by Thomas Pynchon and Cormac McCarthy.
Allegretti's poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Art/Life, Rattapallax, New York Quarterly, descant, The Laurel Review, Margie, Anglican Theological Review, BigCityLit, Wandering Hermit Review, Manhattan Literary Review, Sensations, Porcupine, Knock, Confrontation, River Oak Review and other publications.
He is represented in the anthology Chance of a Ghost (Helicon Nine Editions, 2005), which also includes work by Billy Collins, Rita Dove and James Tate. His poem in that collection received an Honorable Mention in the 2006 edition of The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, published by St. Martin's Press.
Allegretti was a quarter-finalist in the 2002 Lyric Recovery Festival and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

Paul Nash and Denise La Neve host this series, now in its eleventh year. The readings, which feature both poetry and music, are held on the fourth Friday of each month at Il Trapezio Cafe, 120 Franklin Avenue in Nutley, N.J.
John Chorazy's collection Walking Through My Father's Garden won the 2006 William Paterson University English Department Chapbook Competition, and his essay "Up, With a Twist" was a winner of the English Department's 2004 Award in Non-Fiction.
Chorazy served as Editor of The Ever Dancing Muse from 1993 to 2003. His poems have appeared in journals including Black Buzzard Review, Alpha Beat Press, Lips, Paterson Literary Review, Chronogram and many others.
His poems have also been awarded honorable mentions by The Fanwood Arts Council and the Talerico Poetry Competition. He has shared his work in venues such as CBGB's, Cornelia Street Café, The Knitting Factory, the Montclair Art Museum, and The William Carlos Williams Poetry Cooperative, and has coordinated events including The Pop Lounge Poetry Series, Rutherford, N.J., and a monthly reading series at The Montclair Public Library.

Poets Gather In Nutley Bistro

Brant Lyon and John J. Trause
JOHN J. TRAUSE is the Director of the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library in Wood-Ridge, NJ (since 2000), and has been writing and reciting his poetry for more than 25 years. Trause has been an active part of the NYC art scene as well as an avid devotee of avant-garde public raucousness. Trause’s recent chapbook of poetry, SERIOUSLY SERIAL, is published by Poets Wear Prada, Hoboken, N.J.
BRANT LYON has been published in Rattle, Lullwater Review, Medicinal Purposes, BigCityLit, and other journals. His work has been included in The Company We Keep (Poet Warrior 2003), and Cautionary Tale: Seven New York Performing Poets (Uphook 2008). His latest chapbook is Your Infidel Eyes (Poets Wear Prada 2006). His poemusic CD is Beauty Keeps Laying Its Sharp Knife Against Me (Logochrysalis 2008).
